It's ruined! I had plans for what I was going to get after my lease is up. I want a hardtop convertible: more specifically the Volvo C70. I wanted to get one at Carmax with the Maxcare warranty just in case that beautifully overcomplicated roof fails. I read up on maxcare though and saw this:
What Maxcare doesn't cover:
Glass, glass framework, fastening adhesives, sealed beam headlamps, light bulbs, lenses, trim, moldings, bright metal, upholstery, vinyl and convertible tops, paint, sheet metal, bumpers, alignment of body parts, flexible body parts, door panels, body panels, structural framework, structural welds, and removable hardtop assemblies.
What does this mean? I either risk the roof, try and find a CPO one at a dealer, or forego the hardtop convertible dream altogether. This makes me sad. They will cover an AMG or M or Range Rover, but not a convertible?
Also: Go ahead and judge me, I don't care. I know it isn't the holy grail jalop car. Its a very heavy, FWD, automatic, convertible. But it's my money and choice, not yours.

I think you highlighted the wrong area. It's considered a convertible top. See item 11 in the list. A "removable hardtop assembly" is an addon like you can buy for the NA Miatas.
tl;dr - You're fucked anyway

Needs S60/V70 R swaaaap so you can braaaap.

Well Damn. You had my hopes up for a little bit until I kept reading....
Yeah either way. But hey how unreliable can it be?

I would say that only applies to "removable" hard tops (i.e. T-top, Corvette's removable hardtop panel)
Best thing to do is call CarMax and find out.

My dealers owner had a custom made C70 Polestar monster with the New R design rims swapped on, the two tone black and white R seats, blue dials, and a heavily tuned engine. It sounded glorious and created FWD burnouts

Why on earth would I judge you? The C70 is an awesome car, sure it's not nimble, fast, RWD or a diesel.. but I'd drive one as a DD for sure.

thank you! I'm in Florida so I would have that top down like every day I could. When it rains I'm safe from a hardtop

Pretty sure the removable hardtop assemblies they're referring to are not hardtop convertibles. More like the hardtops you put on soft top convertibles.
Since they also mention convertible tops, you would need to look into what specifically about convertible tops it doesn't cover. So like, maybe they don't cover a new fabric top if the fabric wears out and needs to be replaced. But it doesn't say it excludes convertible top mechanisms , so if you had the hydraulic pumps or solenoids or however it operates go out, those might be covered.
Find out about the top mechanisms, and you're good to go.

I always thought the C70 was a cool car. A neighbor has a black one. The C30 was awesome too.

I don't think the roof would bethat unreliable. This idea is awesme indeed! Do you plan on getting the sexy pre-facelift version or the extra sexy facelifted one?

I can't remember the last time we had an issue with those. Maybe 3 years ago? And it was because the customer put something in wrong and it got caught, not a manuf. defect

you were who I wanted to see here! I figured they would be rather reliable but I had no real knowledge. So So So pretty.

I'm hoping for extra sexy post facelift but whatever my budget affords is what I'll get. Either works for me honestly.

i'm sure there might be some out there that did develop something but it isn't common by any means. Last one like I said was forever ago but it was a user error. Also, after a wreck, they get fidgety but usually they get adjusted and calibrated (using VIDA). But that is covered by the insurance and also doesn't happen hardly at all. They are neat and I love the taillights after the face lift. Add a BOV and you'll be set with a very good looking, semi rare, fun driving car.
I've been looking for a 05- Corvette coupe and SC430 (07-) for hopefully next year. This isn't a bad contender as well

They both are excellent.
